The Arts Committee

Westlake’s parent Arts Committee is dedicated to supporting the visual and performing arts at Westlake Elementary School.  We are proud that Westlake Elementary School is the recipient of the California Department of Education's 2016 Exemplary Art Education Program Award.

The Arts Committee celebrates more than 25 years of collaboration between parents and faculty collaborating together to ensure a well-rounded program of arts is available to our students. 

​Westlake Elementary includes arts education as recognized by the California State Visual and Performing Arts Standards, as part of the comprehensive core curriculum. The Arts Committee strives to augment the district's arts program to include K-2 music and K-5 dance instruction.

What the PTA and Arts Committee supports and funds:

• Music programs for K-2nd grade
• Dance and movement programs such as folk, African, Capoeira, and Hip Hop
• Westlake Artisan Fair/Day of Dance
• ​Virtual Talent Show
• Art materials, including paints, paper, brushes, and clay
• Theater education & Experience
• Special arts related assemblies
• On campus fifth grade culminating art project
• Onsite part-time arts coordinator

How you can get involved:

• Come to the Arts Committee meetings 
• Become a Classroom Art Parent
• Become a PTA Member, supporting arts related activities
• Reach out to Karina our Arts Chair to discuss other opportunities

The Arts Committee meets one Monday a month and we discuss upcoming Arts events as well as to have a platform within which parents and teachers can exchange ideas about visual, performing, music arts at school.
